What Is Performance Dry NeedlingTM?
Performance Dry NeedlingTM is a technique developed by Athletes’ Potential. It starts with a movement assessment performed by an Athletes’ Potential Physical Therapist. After movement deficiencies have been found, small acupuncture needles are inserted into very specific areas to help “re-set” the muscle dysfunction. In conjunction with the needles the Marc Pro stimulation unit is used to help reduce swelling and restore normal function. This technique resolves trigger points, tissue adhesions and local circulation deficits. This is the most effective and popular treatment option offered at Athletes’ Potential.
Why Should I See Athletes' Potential?
Numerous studies have shown that early access to physical therapy is beneficial on multiple levels. Getting in to see a good physical therapist quickly saves the patient money, time and gets them out of pain faster.
Please read this summary from the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association.

Why Do I Need A Movement And Mobility Assessment?
Athletes’ Potential recommends getting a Movement and Mobility Assessment performed 1-2x per year as a preventative approach. You go to your dentist twice a year to make sure you aren’t getting cavities. You go to your physician once a year to make sure your heart and lungs are working correctly. You even change the oil in your car every few months. All of these things are preventative and stop you from having a more serious problem down the road. Most people never get their actual body movement assessed preventatively even though almost 90% of Americans suffer from back pain in their lifetime. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Do I Need A Referral To Be Seen At Athletes' Potential?
No a referral is not needed to be seen at Athletes’ Potential.
A physician referral may be required to submit for you to submit for insurance reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to find out specifics on out of network physical therapy before visiting Athletes’ Potential if you plan on filing for reimbursement.
Why Is Athletes' Potential Out-Of-Network With All Insurance Companies?
Athletes’ Potential has decided to be an out-of-network provider because directly taking insurance does not support our treatment philosophy. What does that mean? Basically we believe in one-on-one treatment that is based completely on the needs of the individual client. Typical insurance based physical therapy clinics need to see about 3 patients per hour to be profitable. At Athletes’ Potential we feel that this model is broken and refuse to sacrifice our client’s quality of care. Your visit at Athletes’ Potential will be one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy the entire time.
Can I Request Reimbursement From My Insurance For Physical Therapy Out Of Pocket expenses?
This depends on the insurance you have but the answer is yes. Clients seen for physical therapy can send in self-claims to their insurance. You should be able to print claim forms off your insurance company’s website, and send it in with the needed receipts and treatment codes that will be provided upon request at the clinic. The amount of reimbursement or payment toward your deductible is completely dependent on your insurance plan. If you are planning to submit for reimbursement you should call your insurance company prior to visiting Athletes’ Potential. Ask about reimbursement for out-of-network physical therapy expenses, and make sure there are no other requirements like a pre-authorization before you get started.
What Do I Need For My First Visit With Athletes’ Potential?
We ask that you try to arrive approximately 10 minutes before your scheduled visit. Also, please wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes so that we can easily assess your movement and mobility.
Do You Only Treat Athletes?
No. Although we pride ourselves on getting athletes back to their sport as quickly as possible, they are not our only patients. We see just as many patients who come in with chronic and long-term issues. We treat musculoskeletal injuries of all types. Anything from headaches to ankle sprains can be treated at Athletes’ Potential.
